How to Clear Acne

This is where you get the scoop on how to clear acne without using drugs. Notice I said "clear" not "cure". You see, acne has no cure. It can only be controlled.

Fact. All medications have side effects.

Fact. It's impossible to tell in advance who will have a negative reaction to a particular medicine.

Fact. Most acne medications take several weeks or months to work and none of them works for everyone.

So what have you got to lose by tackling acne flares on your own? Not much, right?

OK, let's look at how you can manage acne without using drugs. There are things you do and things you don't do. We'll start with the dos.

Do wash the affected skin with a mild cleanser twice a day.

Do shower after exercising to remove any sweat and dirt.

Do rinse with cold water after cleansing (if you can) as this helps to close pores.

Do use an alcohol-free toner, especially in humid weather.

Do use a clay mask twice or three times a week to remove excess oil.

Do exfoliate your skin once a week.

Do use a facial scrub that removes excess oil, impurities and dead skin.

Do give acne control strategies at least 6 weeks to start working.

Now, for the don'ts. Notice this list is shorter than the one above.

Don't over-cleanse as this can cause irritation and stimulate the oil glands to produce more oil.

Don't use any product that feels heavy or greasy.

Don't pick or squeeze pimples because doing so can spread infection and cause scarring.

Don't let your hair hang over your face.

That in a nutshell is how to clear acne without using drugs. Remember acne can't be cured, it can only controlled. So don't stop looking after your skin even if you've been free of acne for a while.
